L'Admoniteur
A complete visual identity for an art gallery
In art history, the admonitor is the figure who, from within the painting, looks out at the viewer and invites them into the scene. It is the link between the work and whoever is looking at it. That is the role I want to play in the art market: the one who looks at you, points the way and walks with you. The whole identity flows from that idea, from the logo to the business card and the website.

The logo
The eye sits at the heart of the mark: the admonitor's eye, which holds your gaze from the canvas and guides your reading of the work. On its own it becomes a recognisable pictogram, usable as a signature wherever the full name will not fit.
The business card
The card uses Rubens' self-portrait, whose eyes are fixed on us, like an admonitor's. A hole is punched where the eye sits: bring the card up to your face and your own eye takes the painter's place. Whoever holds the card becomes the admonitor.

The website
A gallery site, classic in structure, with an entrance that is not. The home page opens on a work sold by the gallery, deliberately blurred, and hands the visitor the admonitor's eye: moving it across the canvas reveals sharp details, one fragment at a time. The painting changes on every visit, drawn at random from the works that have passed through our hands.
Move the eye across the canvas to reveal its sharp details. On every new visit the hero painting changes, drawn at random from the works sold by the gallery.
