1, 2, 3, Coucher de soleil
A sunset lasts an hour and a half. We rarely watch it to the end: the moment the disc touches the horizon, and then we go inside. This project is a way of staying, and of bringing back the proof in three panels.
Every triptych can be adopted. Choose yours by date, in the catalogue, or by place, on the map.
In the French children's game 1, 2, 3, soleil, our Red Light, Green Light, you move while the other player's back is turned, and freeze when they turn around. Here, it is the sun that turns around. Three panels, one viewpoint, and the hour and a half between the sun still high and nautical twilight, the moment when, at sea, the horizon can no longer be made out. When the light has changed too much for the first panel to remain true, it stops and the second begins. Dry pastel is the only tool that keeps this pace: no drying, no mixing, the colour goes straight from the stick to the paper.
No triptych has an invented title. Each carries the day it was painted and the place the sun was watched from: the Moulleau pier, the Pont de la Concorde, a beach at Les Arbousiers. That is what lets you adopt one that is yours: the evening you met someone, the beach of your childhood, the window of a house you left. The map places each one exactly where it was painted.
